Chaim begins by giving a brief explanation about Rosh Hashanah or “Yom Terurah” which is the traditional beginning of a new Jewish year. Jewish people read comfort passages from the Book of Isaiah, such as Isaiah 51:12; “I, even I, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you should be afraid of a man who will die, and of the son of a man who will be made like grass?”
This comfort is needed in Israel today as it has seldom been needed in the past, as we approach Yom Kippur and the anniversary, according to the Gregorian calendar, of the start of this current war, which began on the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Yom Kippur War in 1973.
Chaim says that in the Hebrew month of Elul the Jewish people do a lot of introspection and repentance, blowing shofars and praying prayers of “slichot” which means repentance of sins and asking for forgiveness. There are also many other traditional practices around this time of year meant to bring us closer to the Torah, to God and to each other.
Chaim says this is the time when Israel will win its greatest victories over the enemies.
In this context he quotes Numbers 10:9; When you go to war in your land against the enemy who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the Lord your God, and you will be saved from your enemies.
He also thanks his viewers for praying for this victory and for strength, courage and perseverance for the IDF troops. He says they’re hard at work destroying all the Hamas terror tunnels and all the other weapons they formed against Israel. He concludes by reminding people to pray for northern Israel, which is facing an onslought from Hezbollah.
