(Day 723) Swords of Iron – “Death Threats and Trump’s Plan”
Chaim starts by asking a rhetorical question about whether the West can survive, and as an example of why he’s wondering about that, he points to a recent poll of university students which asked the question of whether Israel or Palestine would make a better ally to the United State. 29% said Israel, 33% said Palestine and 38% were “unsure” which raises serious questions about what these young people are learning at these universities.
Chaim also notes that he and his fellow IDF soldiers are fighting a kinetic war in which soldiers are often wounded and sometimes killed, but in Europe, America, Canada, Australia and elsewhere, there have been a massive rise in violent anti-Semitic threats, attacks and violence. Chaim asks a rhetorical question about how we can teach the terrorists that this is not allowed.
In the meantime, US President Donald Trump has come up with a 21-point plan to try and end the war in Gaza. Some of the points sound good, such as the release of all the hostages, living and dead. But other points include a “multi-national force” to administer the Strip, which doesn’t sound so good, because this opens up all kinds of possibilities for things to go sideways.
Chaim goes through many of the points that he finds problematic for different reasons, and he wraps it up by asking a rhetorical question about whether these countries who are turning against Israel know what they’re getting into.
However, he ends on an optimistic note, saying he knows that the righteous will prevail, and in this context, he quotes Psalms 5:12; For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous;
With favor You will surround him as with a shield.
