Things are getting serious. Major cities across Israel are opening their bomb shelters. China and Canada have advised their citizens to leave Iran immediately and avoid travel there until further notice. The Israeli Ministry of Health has distributed recommendations based on lessons learned from Operation Rising Lion with Iran, including guidance for hospital staff on dry bathing, sleep regulation, and coping with a prolonged war.
A massive evacuation of American tourists from Israel to Jordan and Egypt is underway as well. Mike Huckabee, the U.S. ambassador, is in Tel Aviv right now; just hours ago he gave a message emphasizing safety risks but reassuring that there’s no need to panic. However, those wishing to leave should do so immediately.
Iran has reportedly demanded that the U.S. drop “excessive demands.”
This situation is escalating. You’d think in beautiful weather like this, groups like Hamas and Hezbollah would want to spend time with their families, enjoy life, and appreciate the flowers. But instead, they are digging tunnels and striving to destroy the free world—Israel, America, and everything we stand for.
The Houthi flags bear the slogan “Death to America.” We are continuing to dismantle tunnel networks and other infrastructure, both underground and above ground. Yahalom, along with the Northern Brigade near Beit Hanoun, has been doing exceptional work, removing stockpiled weapons and protecting visitors.
The USS Gerald Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier, has reportedly left CIT and is on its way to Israel, expected in a few hours. Hundreds of personnel, including those with advanced systems, are stationed at U.S. air bases in heightened operational capacity to intercept any missiles, especially if Israel strikes Iran. Some U.S. personnel have been deployed to IDF bases for the weekend, and many soldiers have been asked to stay on base rather than go home. It feels like we’re approaching a breaking point.
Several hours ago, 12 F-15 Strike Eagle fighter jets took off from Seymour Johnson Air Base toward the Middle East, escorted by two KC-46 Pegasus and four KC-135 Stratotanker refueling aircraft. The U.S. possesses roughly 96% of the world’s aerial refueling capabilities, allowing them to strike further and with greater reach than most nations. At Ben Gurion Airport, refueling tankers are visible, and there’s speculation Israel may strike before the U.S. does.
Vice President JD Vance recently stated, “There’s no way a U.S. strike on Iran would lead to a long-term war. The people are with us. They want to be free, like us.”
This message resonates with the spirit of Joshua 1, which we reflect on this Shabbat: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
