Swords of Iron Day 1049: Standing at Another Memorial
It is heartbreaking to stand at yet another memorial for young people whose lives were cut short in their prime. Imagine losing a mother, a father, a brother, a sister, or a child to merciless, bloodthirsty jihadism.
Grief is only half of it. The other half is the question every bereaved family in this country is asking: where are the guarantees that families can rebuild their homes and their lives without this happening all over again? That question deserves an answer, and it deserves one before the next agreement is signed, not after.
Israelis are not asking for revenge. We are asking for something far more ordinary: the reasonable confidence that a wedding, a school run, or a Friday-night dinner will not become the next anniversary on the national calendar. Every policy discussed this week should be measured against that single test.
The Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s Threats, and the Question of Guarantees
President Donald Trump has called the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz “100 percent successful” and says draconian sanctions on Iran are ready to go. That may well be true today. But will the deals that follow allow Hamas in Gaza or Hezbollah in Lebanon to quietly rearm tomorrow?
Iran is not standing still either. Reports say Iranian planners have weighed strikes on U.S. military assets in southeastern Europe, and have looked at the undersea fiber-optic cables running through the Strait of Hormuz, should Washington escalate further. We cannot afford to wave these threats away.
Notice the pattern. Pressure on the regime does not make it quieter; it makes it look for softer targets — shipping lanes, data cables, allied bases far from Tehran. A blockade that works at sea is only half a strategy if the response arrives somewhere nobody was watching.
Why Israel Struck a Syrian Airbase on Swords of Iron Day 1049
Israel carried out a series of strikes on the Abu al-Duhur military airbase in Syria’s Idlib province, after warning that Damascus was allowing Turkish forces to establish a presence at Syrian airfields, including one near Aleppo. We are not looking for a new front. We are applying the lesson of October 7th: hostile military infrastructure that is allowed to grow on your border does not stay quiet forever.
That raises a harder question. If the United States reduces its military footprint in the Middle East, as some reports suggest it may, how do we protect ourselves while antisemitism keeps climbing worldwide? The West needs to understand that this was never only about Israel. Iranian-backed terrorism and the nuclear program behind it threaten America, Europe, and the freedoms all of us hold dear.
When a Hospital Becomes a Terror Base
The IDF and Shin Bet say Hamas has been using Nasser Hospital in Gaza as a site for interrogating and torturing Palestinians as its support among the population erodes. When a hospital becomes an interrogation center, we have to be honest about what we are dealing with, and about who is actually endangering the civilians of Gaza.
It is worth sitting with that for a moment. The building meant to be the safest address in any war zone is being used to break the people it should be treating. Gazans know this better than any foreign commentator does, which is exactly why Hamas has to terrorize them into silence.
Meanwhile, senior Hamas terrorists continue to be eliminated. The mission has not changed: protect innocent people and dismantle terrorist infrastructure.
Israel Keeps Helping Others, Including Colombia
And yet, in the middle of all of this, Israel keeps showing up for other people. Following the devastating earthquake in western Colombia, Israel has expanded its humanitarian assistance with further shipments of medical equipment and emergency supplies, on top of the search-and-rescue delegation already working on the ground.
This is not a public relations exercise. It is a small country, at war, sending trained people and scarce equipment halfway around the world because that is what it has done since its founding. You do not always see that on the news. It is worth saying out loud.
Swords of Iron Day 1049: Antisemitism Is Spreading Like a Virus
One of the hardest things to watch on Swords of Iron Day 1049 is how quickly antisemitism is spreading, from North America and Europe to Asia and South America. It behaves like a virus. It crosses borders, it mutates, and it finds hosts wherever education and moral clarity are weak.
The world has to stop reflexively blaming Israel for everything and start holding those who carry out and finance terrorism accountable. Blaming the Jewish state has become a shortcut that lets everyone skip the harder conversation about who actually pays for the rockets.
Hezbollah, Resolution 1701, and Lebanese Sovereignty
Hezbollah violated UN Security Council Resolution 1701, undermined Lebanese sovereignty, and kept weapons exactly where it promised the world it would not. The answer has not changed, and it is not complicated: Hezbollah must disarm, withdraw, and let the Lebanese government actually govern its own country.
Lebanon is the first victim of this arrangement. A country with that much talent and history should not be held hostage by a militia that answers to Tehran rather than to Beirut.
Swords of Iron Day 1049 and the Promise of Psalm 1
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. (Psalm 1:1)
That is why we are still here. Not because it is easy, and not because the world is applauding, but because standing in the right place matters more than standing in the comfortable one.
