Swords of Iron Day 1090: Sukkot Miracle, Terror in the Sky Thwarted
This is nothing short of a Sukkot miracle. Wow. Everybody is now home safe and sound in their beds in Israel after a FlyDubai terror attack that should have ended in catastrophe.
I want to walk you through exactly what happened, because the courage shown on that flight deserves to be remembered by every one of us.
What Happened During the FlyDubai Terror Attack
A Boeing 737 carrying 174 passengers, most of them Israelis and 27 of them children, was flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv. At about 34,000 feet, the copilot reportedly stabbed the captain and smashed the controls, sending the aircraft into a terrifying dive.
The plane transmitted the emergency code 7700 and then 7500, the code that signals unlawful interference or a hijacking.
In roughly one minute, the aircraft dropped about 18,400 feet. We were minutes away from a catastrophe.
Israeli Passengers Stopped the FlyDubai Terror Attack
However, the terrorist did not count on one thing. The passengers stepped up.
In fact, the Israeli passengers breached the cockpit, subdued the terrorist copilot, helped the injured captain and assisted in taking control of the aircraft.
The captain, despite being severely stabbed, managed to unlock the cockpit door and activate the distress signal. A British pilot on board then helped stabilize the plane. At the same time, our fighter jets scrambled and rushed to their rescue.
Netanyahu Thanks the Heroes of the FlyDubai Terror Attack
Afterward, our prime minister thanked the captain for his bravery and wished him a speedy recovery from his injuries. He also met personally with some of the passengers who led the intervention.
Because every Israeli should hear their story, I included that meeting in today’s video update, where they describe what happened in their own words, along with footage the passengers recorded during the crisis. I had to censor the graphic images because there was blood everywhere.
Why Was the FlyDubai Terror Attack Carried Out?
Think about the world we are living in. A copilot, trusted with the lives of everyone on board, tries to crash a plane and kill them all.
So why? Is it ideology? We do not know yet. The investigation is still ongoing.
There is speculation about the Dubai to Tel Aviv route and the growing connections between Israel and the Arab world. Still, I cannot prove any connection to Iran. We have to wait for the facts, and I will not run ahead of them.
The Courage That Defines Israel
What amazes me most about the FlyDubai terror attack is the courage. These people did not sit there waiting for somebody else to save them. Not an air marshal, not another pilot, not somebody in authority. They acted.
For example, they did not wait for permission. That is exactly why I believe Israel can be so resilient. When danger comes, people step up. We saw it on October 7 and we saw it again in the sky this week.
Likewise, look at our fighter jets scrambling within minutes. The Army and Air Force leadership mobilized together to protect our people. That is what happens when we refuse to be intimidated.
The FlyDubai Terror Attack and the Abraham Accords
Of course, some people hate the fact that the good guys are winning. Some hate seeing the Abraham Accords expand and normalization grow.
Whether the threat comes from Hezbollah rockets in the north or from a terrorist in a cockpit, the message is the same. As a result, whoever wants to stop that progress cannot intimidate us. They cannot silence us. They cannot stop us from moving forward.
A Sukkot Miracle Over Israel
Sukkot is the festival where we remember how God sheltered Israel in the wilderness. This year He sheltered 174 people in the sky. As a result, what was meant to be a FlyDubai terror attack became a testimony of faith, courage and protection.
Finally, friends, Happy Sukkot. Keep believing in miracles. Keep believing that God is watching over Israel.
“Through God we shall do valiantly: for He it is that shall tread down our enemies.”
Psalm 108:13
