Take the starvation narrative. Israel’s COGAT reports that the volume of aid entering Gaza during the ceasefire has significantly exceeded the population’s assessed requirements. I have been telling you for months about the hundreds of trucks going in, while residents describe food accumulating in shelters and being resold in markets.

I want to be straight with you, because that is the only thing worth doing here: the aid agencies do not describe it the same way. The World Food Programme says it has reached a million people and still wants more crossings open. Those two accounts genuinely conflict, and you should know that rather than hear only one of them from me.

What I will say plainly is this: when humanitarian data gets converted into a blanket accusation against Israel, the facts on the ground do not support it, and repeating it plays directly into Hamas’s hands. A group that steals and resells aid benefits enormously from a world convinced the aid is not arriving.

I opened by saying lies have no foundation, and I want to explain what I actually mean, because it is not wishful thinking.

A lie has to be maintained. Every new fact that arrives has to be explained away, and each explanation costs something in plausibility. The truth needs no maintenance at all; it simply keeps matching the evidence, month after month, without anyone having to work at it. That asymmetry is why falsehoods that dominate a news cycle so often look absurd two years later.

The practical implication for anyone reading this is not to shout louder. It is to be the person who is still accurate when the story turns. Correct yourself publicly when you get something wrong, cite sources people can actually check, and do not repeat a claim that flatters your side unless you would accept the same evidence from the other. That is slower than outrage, and it is the only thing that compounds.

Iran Is Feeling the Squeeze

Iran is under real pressure. Petrol queues have deepened across Tehran and beyond, with stations shutting and a reported daily shortfall of millions of liters, while the blockade has cut Iranian oil exports sharply. An oil-rich country whose drivers circle empty pumps for hours is a country whose government has made choices.

And a squeezed regime gets desperate. Yair Netanyahu was urgently evacuated from Miami back to Israel over a significant threat, and the Prime Minister has said publicly that Iran tried to murder his son. Imagine living in a time when the family of Israel’s prime minister is hunted by a regime in Tehran.

America keeps tightening. The Treasury Department has sanctioned the general manager of Bank Melli’s Dubai branch along with a UAE-based bank it describes as a critical node for the Iranian regime’s access to U.S. dollars, processing roughly $1.8 billion for more than a hundred companies, including fronts for Iran’s Defense Ministry and the IRGC.

There are also difficult conversations among friends. The United States is reportedly planning to end military assistance to the Kurdish Peshmerga, which has caused real concern in the Kurdistan Region while Iranian-backed attacks continue.

Meanwhile Finland is ending its funding for UNRWA, declining to renew a multi-year agreement worth millions of euros, following allegations that agency personnel took part in the October 7 massacre and hostage-taking. After everything that has been uncovered, the UN cannot simply return to business as usual and expect the money to keep arriving.

Israel’s Elections Are Coming

Israel’s elections are approaching on October 27, after the Knesset dissolved in July, and there is plenty of political maneuvering. The biggest names in Israeli politics are all part of a shifting landscape, and nobody knows who will win or what coalitions will form.

I am not going to tell you how to think about that, and I would be suspicious of anyone in uniform who did. What I will say is that a country able to hold a real election in the middle of all this is a country that still works.

Because no matter what happens on election night, God is in control. I tell my children that the bad guys may have their day, but they do not win in the end.

Swords of Iron Day 1059 and the Words of Proverbs

The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness… The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words… The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous. (Proverbs 15:9, 26, 29)

Notice how much of that passage is about words and thoughts rather than actions. In a war fought partly through narrative, that is not a small detail.
