People keep asking me the same three questions: Is Turkey another front? Are we winning in Lebanon and Gaza? And what is actually happening on the Syrian front? Swords of Iron Day 1047 gave us a harder answer than most people wanted to hear.
Swords of Iron Day 1047: Is the Syrian Front Reigniting?
Look at the videos they posted themselves. Chants by Syrian military personnel threatening Jews — saying things like “We’re coming for you, Jew” and “We will make your blood flow in rivers.” These chants were filmed and circulated by the soldiers themselves, and they should concern everyone.
Israel has made its position clear. Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and every terrorist group that threatens our safety must be disarmed, dismantled and disbanded, so that there can never be a repeat of October 7th. That standard does not soften because a border is different or a uniform is new. An army that films itself promising to spill Jewish blood has told you what it intends, and no amount of diplomatic language undoes the recording.
A Change of Clothing Does Not Make a Moderate
Syria deserves the same caution. A change of clothing or a new political title does not automatically transform someone into a moderate. Israel has every reason to remain skeptical when former jihadist elements still surround the leadership, and when local minorities like the Druze and Christians have suffered brutal violence at their hands.
Judging a regime by its statements rather than its conduct is how the region keeps repeating the same mistake.
Israel’s Message in Northwestern Syria: Stay Back
The Israeli Air Force has sent a clear message of its own by operating near military positions in northwestern Syria, close to the Turkish border. The target was the Abu al-Duhur airfield in Idlib province, roughly 70 kilometers from the Turkish border, and Israel said the strike was meant to stop foreign troop deployments from taking root on Syrian airbases. Turkey denies having a military presence there. Either way, the principle behind the strike does not change.
Turkey cannot be allowed to become another Iran. Israel will not permit hostile forces to establish weapons, terror infrastructure or attack capabilities in Syria that could turn it into another Lebanon or another Gaza. Whoever is there, the message is simple: stay back.
Why Is the Outrage So Selective?
We also need to be consistent about defending innocent people everywhere. Christians have suffered horrific attacks in places like Pakistan and Nigeria, yet much of the world remains strangely quiet about it.
Why does outrage become so loud when Israel defends itself, while the persecution of Christians and other minorities receives so much less attention? A standard that applies to one nation and not to others is not a moral standard at all.
What I Saw in the Rubble of Beit Shemesh
I remember walking through some of the rubble in Beit Shemesh after the Iranian attacks — a synagogue destroyed, homes devastated, families mourning.
Imagine looking at your own house, your own car, your own neighborhood, and knowing it was targeted simply because you are Jewish. A burned siddur, destroyed homes, lives lost — that is what this hatred produces.

But destruction does not have to be the final chapter. I am encouraged to see the rebuilding beginning: temporary structures going up before the permanent ones, neighborhoods being restored, and trees being planted at Nova, where so much blood was spilled.
That is the story we should remember on Swords of Iron Day 1047. Not only what was destroyed, but what is being rebuilt on top of it.
Psalm 87 and the Meaning of Foundations
Psalm 87 speaks about the foundations of God in the holy mountains of Israel:
The Lord loves the gates of Zion.
When storms come, strong foundations matter. When everything around you shakes, they are what determine whether you stand.
Israel has been through tremendous suffering, but we are rebuilding. We are strengthening our foundations, protecting our people, and looking toward a future of peace and renewal.
